For Times of Trouble

For the last few weeks I've been reading For Times of Trouble by Elder Holland.
In the book he breaks down Psalms, and applies them to our lives and trials.
Here are some select words from Elder Holland that have jumped out at me:

"We may not hear His answers, or we may not recognize His answers if we do hear them, and in some cases we may not like His answers even though we say we trust Him.  In those moments especially, we must remember He is a "shield".  And one of the things we need to be shielded against is ourselves.  We must constantly be reminded that He is God and we are not.  So when we have a choice between His view of our need and our own, we must yield to His divine view and His divine love."

"How wonderful is it in such times to have a rock to lean on, or a high tower to flee to.  How wonderful it is when our foot is slipping or our faith is sliding to know that there is something firm and immovable- something solid- that can shore us up and stabilize our uneasiness."

"When we allow God to come into our lives (or we are wise enough to come into His) He 'enlarges our steps' for the path we must walk- or, in more modern language, He gives us bigger feet that do not slip."

"You cannot lift another soul until you are standing on higher ground than he is.  You must be sure, if you would rescue the man, that you yourself are setting the example of what you would have him be."

"To verbalize something is to give it life, so when we speak of our blessings aloud, the reality of them becomes more obvious, more powerful, more permanent.  This is why it is so important not to verbalize negative feelings and fears habitually.  To give them undue expression is to give them a life they do not deserve."

"It is encouraging to know there is virtually nothing we can do that would ever put us permanently beyond the reach of His mercy and His redemption.  His kindness will not be taken from us.  His faithfulness will not fail. He will not break His promises, and He has promised to stand by us forever and, if we wish it, to redeem our souls from sin."

"The most courageous stand we can take is just that- to stand, to be patient, to be still, to believe that there will be victory even if the victory is not to come now.  Be of good courage.  The Lord will strengthen thy heart."

Thanks, Presidents

President's Day was rewarding friends.
No work, no school...just play!
I'll take any excuse to wear a good outfit instead of work clothes.
And any excuse for a sale! (Maybe I did a little tiny bit of shopping...)
You can never have too much cheetah print.
Or too many pairs of distressed pants. With studs. Obsessed.
Also obsessed with my purple MARC by Marc Jacobs earrings.  Did I say OBSESSED?!

My Personal Happy

"Do more of what makes you happy."  We hear it all the time, but I don't really think I've been listening.

The other day I was talking to someone about my job.  I have always tried to stay in the dance industry in any way possible, so working at dance stores and studios has always kept me in that environment.  This person asked if I taught at the studio, and I had to (sadly) answer no.  I elaborated stating that I wish I could, but it has been years since I've danced.  Honestly, it's been years since I have even been able to even hit my right split.  And the more I thought about it, the more it made me sad.

I know that there comes a point in life when you become an adult.  Childhood activities and hobbies become a thing of the past.  But when something has a piece of your heart, it's always there.  It was the way that I expressed myself.  I was blessed to have something that helped me with what ever I was going through.  Whether I was angry, sad, or ecstatic, there was always an empty room that acted as my blank canvas.  I could tell a story through movement, and how many people can say that?  I think that's what I struggle with the most- not being able to say that anymore, not being able to identify as a dancer.  It was my identity all growing up, and as more time passes I feel it slipping through my fingers.  It's not something that I want to let go of.  I still feel like it's part of me.

So I came to this realization: it's been years since I have done what makes me happy.  And frankly, there's really no excuse.  This is it.  This is what I want.  Something has to change.

This is the video that I found that lit a fire under me and got me thinking.
It's artistic.  It's perfect.  It's inspiring.
And I want that again.

So Maybe I'm a Little Behind...

...but let's talk Grammys 2013- Red Carpet Edition.
Here are some looks I LOVED:

Best Dressed of the night for sure. RiRi was spot on this time.
Clearly red was a trend this year.

And for the look of the night that I HATED (seriously JLo, I don't know what you were thinking)
Kinda reminded me a bit of this catastrophe a few years back...
And of course, this gem. I just couldn't leave it out. It's adorable, yet entirely too confusing.

I hope y'all loved it as much as I did!
Oh and...a little JT for your enjoyment.
You're welcome.

Today I...

Today I...

...went to cycling with a new teacher (that I doubted, I'll admit) and still had an amazing work out.

...lounged and watched two of my favorite shows with my bff (Nashville and Dance Moms...THE best).

...ran errands that have needed to be done for weeks, which made me feel overly accomplished. Probably more than it should have.

Today I...

...drank two diet cokes with lime. So much for no soda in February! (No regrets...right?)

...had an appointment with my Elementary Ed advisor and finally turned in my application for the program! Talk about feeling accomplished! My interview is scheduled for March 8th!

...sang Alanis Morrisette at the top of my lungs on the way to work. "Thank You" requires as much.

...didn't need a jacket in 35 degrees! Spring is upon us folks...j/k, it's snowing all day tomorrow.

Today I...

...spent time with a close friend that I haven't gotten to see all week.

...had a minor case of the giggles. :)

...made two girls happy with new pointe shoes that actually fit correctly...imagine that!

Today I had a fantastic day, the kind where you can't stop smiling and the sun shines a little brighter.

To top it all off...today I received this text from my bff/roommate just
as I was getting off work. She's the best!

I Adore You

I put this outfit together a long time ago and forgot all about it!
Thank goodness I remembered it, because I'm obsessed.
Anything army green is a definite yes, and the graphic tank is rhinestoned- so double yes!

Anyway, I feel it is only fitting to tell y'all a few things that I "adore":
- rediscovering this jacket from five years ago
- my nieces' adorable daily pictures on instagram
- comfy sweats while blogging
- Friends reruns on Nick at Nite
- my best friend for taking pictures for me all the time :)

I know this is terribly blurry, but it's funny. I wanted to show off the "adore" :)
